THE SIMULATIONISTS: Mixed Reality Performance is an interdisciplinary exhibition exploring the performative expression of presence in our digitally mediated and networked culture. Through gallery performances, physical artifacts, and installed digital media, this interdisciplinary exhibition will address the impact of digital technology, networks, computer code, avatars, and virtual environments on our understanding and expression of embodied performance.
The exhibition, co-curated by Claudia Hart, Mark Jeffery and Judd Morrissey, all professors at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, will include selected contributions from students and alumni of two of their SAIC studio courses, Live Presence, Technology, Virtual Spaces, and Digital Bodies. The student projects will be shown alongside work by contemporary artists who were studied in the classes and therefore directly influenced students’ production.
Sunday 4th September – Wednesday 7th September 2011, University of Nottingham Ningbo, China
(with add on option of Saturday 3rd September in Shanghai)
In 2011 the DRHA conference will explore the new connectivities in societies and cultures which are enabled by the blending of virtual and physical space, the traversing of time and space through the virtual, and the evolution of innovative methodologies. Crossing disciplines and challenging boundaries within the humanities, arts and the creative industries, this conference will examine critically familiar notions of the ‘local’, the ‘global’ and the ‘network’ across the cultural spectrum.
The deadline has been extended to Monday 21st February 2011. Abstracts should be approx 600 words.
Co-chairs – DRHA 2011 Judith Still (University of Nottingham) and Ghislaine Boddington (Middlesex University/ body>data>space). Conference Lead – Andy White (Nottingham University, Ningbo, China)

We also featured in the Chirstmas edition of T3, with Ghislaine being interviewed and sharing her thought son the future workplace and telepresence.
Between June-November 2010 we have been running the Robots and Avatars Lunch Debate series. This series of debates, with a diverse group of experts and professionals, looks ahead to a workplace which involves a mix of robots, avatars, tele-presence and real time presence. Rich educational resources are being generated including Vodcasts for young people, teachers and researchers to use and explores issues such as the implications of artificial intelligence, ethics in digital space, the future of technology in healthcare, the future world of work and skills required for future digital careers.
