body>data>space are hosting two more exciting 'Open in Process' events in March and April at our studio in Cremer Street, Shoreditch. These nights take place as a series of live presentation events followed by in the round debates, focusing on collaborative making processes for interdisciplinary interactive arts.

Wednesday 12th March - Featuring: Festival of computer based art CYNETart_08 (Dresden) & Presentation of Second Life Projects by Michael Takeo Magruder.

  • Michael Takeo Magruder will discuss his current work in Second Life and its real-time hybridisation with physical and networked spaces. He will present two of his recent interdisciplinary projects in this area:
    • "Rhythmic Space(s)" [ a set of virtual/physical performances in the Great Hall of Hellerau for the CYNETart_07 festival - http://body-bytes.de ] and
    • "The Vitruvian World" [ a commission by Turbulence.org for their "Mixed Realities" exhibition - www.turbulence.org ].  
  • Thomas Dumke and Anja Dietel will be presenting CYNETart_08 a festival based in Dresden which has been showing new trends of cultural developments in the media arts since 1997.The international festival focuses on broaching the issue of change of the perception of the body by new information technologies. Wednesday 2nd April - Featuring: New work from Soda and an introduction to Post Me_New ID - a co-production between body>data>space, CIANT ( Prague ) and Eira ( Lisbon )

  • Fiddian Warman of Soda will talk about 'Neurotic' his latest project (a live performance of his punk band, ‘Neurotic’, the audience and five two meter tall pogo-ing robots) which questions the neurology associated with the essential human experience of pleasure, learning, taste and ageing in the context of the instinct to dance.
  • Post Me_New ID is an EU funded project practically exploring the physical and digital social networking and how this effects creation processes for interdisciplinary artistic projects. It envisions the artistic outputs of generations to come, and the shifts in identity of modern Europeans. See more info about Post Me_New ID below.

These Open in Process events are part of NODE.London Spring '08 season of media arts

NODE.L (Networked, Open, Distributed, Events, London) A network of Media Artists, are about to unveil a city-wide showcase of exciting, switched-on, high-tech arts activities - budding with electrifying exhibitions, digital discussions, participatory performances, networked musical events and hands on workshops.

Post Me_New ID is a dynamic collaboration between body>data>space (London, UK), Eira (Lisbon, Portugal) CIANT (Prague, Czech Republic) and 16 international partners and examines the complexity of 21st century European identity through an exploration based on technologies of the body

An active and public Blog is fed by a series of debate led Research Engines with a Forum, Book and DVD as the end products. In addition a series of Creation Processes will result in a public Installation/Performance.

We are researching and exploring the following key themes:

  • Wearables / Prosthetics / Robotics
  • Telematics / Generative/ Real Time /
  • Expanded worlds / Next ID / Multi Selves / Avatars
  • Monsters – human / non human / the “other“
  • Engendered bodies - shifts in gender psychologies

Post Me_New ID is co-financed by the European Union within the Culture 2007 Programme.

TMA Hellerau announces the International CYNETart competition

Call for entries for the 12th Festival of computer-based art CYNETart_08 International Call for Entries CYNETart-competition. TMA Hellerau hosts this international competition of CYNETart, inviting artists and art groups to present their projects, every two years.

DRHA 2008: New Communities of Knowledge and Practice
Call for Papers and Performances

The DRHA (Digital Resources in the Humanities and Arts) conference is held annually at various academic venues throughout the UK, this year it will be hosted by the University of Cambridge. The conference theme this year is to promote discussion around new collaborative environments, collective knowledge and redefining disciplinary boundaries.
